When Yale Slaughtered Columbia

If you look at Wikipedia, you’ll see the following score for the 1883 Yale - Columbia game:

There’s actually quite a bit of historical revisionism here. The original newspaper articles don’t cite Yale scoring 93 points. Instead, they read something more like this:

The reason for the discrepancy is because the scoring rules were not yet solidified.

The Boston Globe contains an even shorter article, an article that also does not list what we would consider an actual score:

And, interestingly enough, the other New York newspapers largely ignored this game.
