Passing to Glory
I’m starting to feel a bit of replay fatigue.
Action! PC Football’s fatigue system really is driving me nuts. We wound up playing every single wide receiver in this game, with no regard paid at all to how the Browns played in real life.
And we just barely squeaked through with a win.
It was an awful running game for Pruitt. Thankfully, though, the rubber band defense held strong, and we were just able to earn the victory.
Game Stats
Well, we did outgain the Colts in terms of total offense, which is good. Sipe threw for 338 yards, which was an impressive performance.
I turned the automatic blitz option off early in the game, which made a big difference defensively. Still, 10 missed tackles is not what we want to see.
And, once again, we had an abysmal time trying to run the football. This is a huge part of the receiver fatigue problem, by the way. Mike Pruitt is the only running back on this team who has the potential to gain meaningful yardage. If he’s shut down, we either rely on the passing game or wind up going three-and-out on every possession. That’s what causes us to throw more passes, which is why our receiver stats look so strange.
You can see the impact here.
Keith Wright only had 3 receptions for the 1980 Browns in real life. We’ve been forced by the fatigue system to overuse him, which is why he has 5 receptions in this game alone.
Though Logan and Rucker only had 4 catches each, I predict that we’ll wind up having to keep them on the bench most of the time in our next game as well. And all of this has happened with the “Season Fatigue” ratings turned off.
At least we were able to prevent Washington from running all over the place. His 10 receptions are another problem, though. As others have noted on various message boards, this version of Action! PC Football seems geared towards encouraging quarterbacks to dump the ball off to running backs at every possible opportunity. 16 attempts to the running back is ridiculous, as is Sipe trying to throw to Pruitt 7 times.
I’m not certain if this will be fixed in the new version of the game or not. I originally was planning to finish this project with the old game. However, the realism problems are really starting to mount.
Standings
We’re still in it mathematically, but not realistically. We play at Pittsburgh this week, and I doubt we’re going to have much success. The Steelers apparently are completely unaffected by fatigue settings, even though they were decimated by age and fatigue in real life.
