I Can't Win
Well, my 1984 college football project has gotten off to an interesting start.
I can’t win.
I’ve been controlling the home team in every game so far, and am planning on continuing to do so. But, no matter what I do, I can’t seem to win.
Though I’ve been close in a few of the 9 games I’ve played so far, I’ve never really been that close. The closest game was probably a 14-12 loss to Texas that Oklahoma State suffered.
Now, the truth is that the home teams have generally been the underdogs. This is probably due to the way I created my custom schedule. I may have inadvertently made it so the home team will be the lower seeded team in each conference during week 1.
Things might get better, however. Here are the games played so far, as well as my next 3 games to play:
Pittsburgh didn’t have a good year in 1984, and Vanderbilt is, well, Vanderbilt. But Tennessee wasn’t bad; I might have some luck with them.
The Penn State loss, by the way, was kind of frustrating. We looked better than West Virginia statistically:
However, a single turnover really took its toll on us, as did our general inability to pass. Doug Strang really didn’t have a good passing season in 1984:
Anyway, we’ll see what this means in the long run. Hopefully it’s a fluke and not an indication that I really don’t know what I’m doing.
